Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning musician, has said that he realized he was going to be an international superstar after a concert in 2014.

He stated that it was the first time he performed in a stadium in Nigeria’s south-eastern region, and the large crowds made him realize he was popular.

Speaking with BBC Radio 1Xtra, Burna noted that the South-East mostly like artists from the region so it was a big deal for an outsider to be accepted by them.

The Afrobeats star stated that he had never seen such love before and did not believe it was genuine.

In response to a question about when he knew he was well-known, Burna said; “2014, that’s the first time I did a show in a stadium the eastern part of Nigeria.

They only like their own people, so if you’ve crossed over there and you’re not from there then you know you have popped.

I have never seen anything like that, I didn’t even think it was real (laughs) It was a real thing that could happen.”
