Reality TV star and entrepreneur, Natacha Akide, better known as Tacha, has criticized the organizers of the Headies for hosting the award ceremony in the United States for two consecutive years.
In a video she shared, the Big Brother Naija star acknowledged that last year’s choice of the United States made sense as Afrobeats was gaining popularity in the country.
However, she expressed her displeasure with them for holding the award show in the United States again, deeming it disrespectful to Nigerians.
Drawing a parallel with American award show, BET awards, Tacha pointed out that the award ceremony can never be held in Africa.
She also recalled how African artistes were once given their award plaques backstage at the BET awards, instead of the main stage.
Speaking further, the 27-year-old influencer asserted that the choice to host the Headies awards in the United States is a manifestation of a “colonial mentality.”
Tacha’s statement has gotten people talking on social media, with many expressing agreement with her opinion.
