“Nigerian Artistes Have A Great Platform Today Because Of Fela” – 9ice

Legendary Nigerian singer, Alexander Abolore Adegbola Akande, popularly known as 9ice, has noted that the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti offered Nigerian musicians the chance to succeed.

In a recent interview with Sis Project Studios, the “Gongo Aso” hitmaker said that Fela, the father of Afrobeats, presented a genre that made things simpler for many artists who were trying new things and seeking a method to show the world their abilities.

He added that Afrobeats taught him a lot and he is glad to be alive to emulate what the great people have done.

9ice said,

“Fela Anikulapo-Kuti gave us the platform which is Afrobeat for us to climb on top. We were trying to do Afropop. We were trying to do afrobeats. We were trying to do different names. But Baba [Fela] already has something that the world recognized.

“Afrobeat taught me a lot. King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, and Fela Anikulapo-Kuti are our grandfathers. And I’m glad to be in existence to emulate or to follow what they’ve done.”

In other news, Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter, Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, has spoken up about the difficulties associated with fame and success as she reveals why she switched from Afrobeats to RnB.

In an interview that was included in the most recent issue of Interview Magazine, she discussed many topics with American rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Tems stated that success frequently entails demands and difficulties, but she attempts to get over them by being herself.
